Hi Everyone,
I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying Project Matrilineal’s new website and resources. I have some interesting news to share with you. I am excited to announce that I will be starting a series of podcasts that I have been planning for a while. I have found my conversations with experienced individuals from and experts on indigenous matrilineal cultures to be invaluable in helping me gain a better understanding of these cultures as well as the evolution of women’s roles in these societies. I have some very intriguing guests in mind from whom I think you would enjoy hearing. I was originally going to do an intensive in person research project by traveling to these societies around the world but the pandemic limited my travels. So I thought, what better way is there than to learn more about these societies through firsthand perspectives and unique experiences from expert guests? I’m hoping to share indigenous wisdom from a variety of cultures, including Khasi, Choctaw, and Cherokee, and plan to have guests not only from these cultures themselves, but also professors in anthropology and experts in matrilineality. I also aim to include the male perspective by having male guests from these cultures so that we are able to get a more comprehensive view on the societies. I am hoping that this cross-section of knowledge will be informative to you, and I hope you enjoy it!
Our first set of podcasts will feature a literary figure from the Khasi culture, Kong Bijoya Sawian. I will be sure to announce other podcasters as we confirm them over time.
Kong Bijoya Sawian is a highly-acclaimed literary figure, and in particular a translator and writer, who lives in Shillong and Dehradun in India. As a Khasi woman, her unique perspectives on the culture and its matrilineal roots will be a segment not to miss. I hope that you all have an opportunity to watch it.
I will share more on this series in my next blog.
